Coca-Cola Patent Covers Improved Small Bottle Design

September 21, 2017: 12:00 AM EST
The Coca-Cola Co. has filed a U.S. patent application covering a new bottle design that improves carbonation retention and lengthens shelf-life while remaining lightweight. The inventors said the new design works especially well with small bottles by increasing weight distribution efficiency (WDE), which is the extent to which weight is distributed uniformly over the entire container. Carbonation retention problems arise with bottles containing 300 milliliters (about 10 fluid ounces) of carbonated liquid or less.
